Safeguard Series cooling units reduce the risk of fire by replacing the flammable gas that pressurizes the cooling unit with a nonflammable inert gas. It sounds simple, but this change in gases required several modifications to the cooling formula along with extensive research and testing. This new charge has added benefits beyond the flammability issue, as the new cooling unit has shown to be more efficient than the standard industry used formula and design. While this does not necessarily mean that your refrigerator will get colder than a standard unit (due entirely to the refrigerator's thermostat), the cooling unit itself will operate more efficiently than a standard unit. This translates to reduced cool down times, and the unit itself operating less frequently. Safeguard Series cooling units are not stock and require additional time to produce than a standard cooling unit. The answer to this is "no". Most any person with a basic set of tools can change out a cooling unit in an afternoon. There is no welding, soldering, or any special skills required. The cooling unit is a sealed system, and is basically a bolt in operation. And, we include a complete set of instructions and materials specific to your model refrigerator with every cooling unit we ship.
